First phase of Del Mar repaving near completion

del mar paving project

Major pavement work on the first phase of the Del Mar Avenue Pavement Rehabilitation Project is completed, and crews will finish the last touches on the project by mid-September.

With this phase of paving, the first of three, the city rehabilitated 0.5 miles of Del Mar Avenue from Mission Road to Chestnut Avenue. Now that the major construction work on this phase is completed, traffic impacts will be reduced on Del Mar Avenue.

Ultimately, by the end of 2018 the city will pave a 1.5-mile stretch of Del Mar Avenue from Mission to the 10 Freeway. The overall project will also include curb and gutter repairs, new accessible pedestrian ramps, bicycle lane striping and an additional $1.3 million in sewer repairs.

The city has already begun planning work for the next phase of paving, which will go from Norwood to the 10 Freeway. Construction on that phase is expected to begin this winter.

Del Mar Avenue is one of the city’s busiest arterials and was in very poor condition. In recent years, the Council has dedicated resources toward improving city infrastructure. The city received a $3.8 million loan from the California Infrastructure and Economic Development Bank to complete the Del Mar project.
